This event will take place in Dublin, Ireland. ![]() In an uneasy political environment, with fringes pulling at the consistency of social cohesion and existential crises testing the backbone of the European project, we believe that a new contract between the people and European political leaders is the only way to ensure that decision-makers remain accountable to citizens, and, to invoke Anderson, fully clothed. ![]() At the autumn seminar in Dublin, the EYL40 will debate the draft policy choices, stress-testing, and ultimately strengthening our proposals, in advance of the new European mandate. In this pursuit, we are crafting ten policy choices through a variety of consultative exercises. The thread of our activities at Friends of Europe aims to define and promote a Renewed Social Contract. ![]() In 2024, in several member states, people from the age of 16 will be voting for the first time-how can we connect with first-time voters and enhance civic engagement across the continent, more broadly? With less than a year until the European Parliament elections, EYL40s will consider the health of the continent’s democratic fabric. In 2023, we must take stock and consider whether European leaders are delivering on their commitment to tackle the profound and cross-cutting challenges of our time, or is the contemporary political climate populated by hollow talk?
